Role Summary:
Current’s Intelligent Cities product line enables cities to turn their ubiquitous lighting footprint into digital infrastructures enabled by CityIQ, Current’s unique intelligent node embedded with multiple sensors.
Our Intelligent Cities product line allows Streetlight fixtures to be equipped with energy load controls, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities, security cameras, sensors that monitor motion, sound and atmospheric changes and more.

Essential Responsibilities:
The Intelligent Cities Global Commodity Leader is the sourcing leader for the Intelligent Cities product line and demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for application in Intelligent Cities. In the Intelligent Cities Global Commodity Leader role, you will use your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and effect short-term and long-term business goals.

In addition, as the Intelligent Cities Global Commodity Leader, you will:

  • Create and lead the commodity procurement strategy including selecting preferred primary and secondary suppliers for each category in Intelligent Cities based on business objectives, developing a process to communicate those selections to design teams, and enforcing adherence to that strategy
  • Leverage the strategy you create to drive reduced lead times, consolidation of common and similar components, as well as achieving variable cost productivity, cash flow, and controllership goals
  • Lead the supplier selection, qualification, development, and overall supplier management, including managing the entire contract life cycle from Request for Proposal to supplier exit
  • Negotiate supply agreements with strategic suppliers to ensure supply of critical components and tier 2 components where necessary
  • Balance strategy development with the tactical execution necessary to deliver cost reduction projects through contract negotiation, process changes, and implementation of sustainable cost controls, including collaboration with Finance to validate the impact of projects and contract negotiations to the general ledger
  • Develop technical and market expertise in Intelligent Cities and the process of making an assembly consisting of sensors & software including the PCBA and assembly process while building supplier relationships. Use acquired expertise to become a resource for NPI teams to design cost effective solutions that meet their design requirements as well as supply chain and commercial objectives
  • Develop a model for estimating the manufacturing capacity of each subassembly in an Intelligent Cities product to support ramp up investment discussions
  • Help Intelligent Cities suppliers plan raw materials and component requirements based on final product demand forecasts
  • Develop an understanding of the Intelligent Cities market and be aware of key developments at competitors and potential partners
  • Work with the Intelligent Environments team to develop a sourcing strategy and supply base for meeting their current and future needs that aligns with the LED Electronic Components strategy
  • Work with NPI teams and product managers to forecast demand and issue orders for Intelligent Cities Products to suppliers and participate in Intelligent Cities Cross functional New Product Development teams.
  • Aid product management in negotiating licensing agreements for key technologies and R&D effort as well supporting BD analysis with potential partners and acquisition targets
  • Create and enforce business policies to meet business targets and customer needs, including improving procurement processes and optimizing Sourcing resources to enhance the customer experience with Sourcing
  • Closely monitor supplier performance to plan and work with the suppliers to manage any required recovery plans / actions
  • Coordinate with factories and contract manufacturers to ensure supply meets any and all demand requirements
  • Hold performance reviews with suppliers as needed
  • Conduct Capacity Audits, track any Red Flags that impede supplier performance and control revisions at Suppliers
  • Ensure any quality issues have the appropriate focus
  • Develop process to look upstream for pending requirements and drive Engineering / Manufacturing / Sales in order to ensure sourcing given adequate cycle to procure material


  • Bachelor’s degree in Sourcing, Engineering, Finance, or Manufacturing or Operations from an accredited university or college
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Commodity Management, Sourcing, Engineering or Manufacturing

    Desired Characteristics:

  • Six Sigma certified / experience (Green Belt or Black Belt certification - GE employees only)
  • Proven quantitative and analytical abilities
  • Strong PC and database management skills
  • Experience writing and negotiating contracts
  • Experience in the Lighting, IoT, or Energy Management industry
  • GE program graduate is preferred (GE employees only)
  • Proven ability to lead teams and drive resolution to meet organization deliverables
  • Resilient and determined self-starter, highly self-directed, proactive individual with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Must exhibit a customer focused, high energy and aggressive approach to issues
      • Uses voice of customer to drive innovation in anticipation of customer needs
