Job Description

CAO Strategy & Process Improvement (S&PI) is a dedicated internal consulting group with a mandate to lead critical strategic transformation efforts focused on the Firm's most urgent needs.
Key objectives include helping front-office businesses (e.g., Banking teams) as well as internal functions (e.g., Technology, Operations, Finance, and Risk) make decisions that result in more efficient processes, greater client impact, and an improved bottom line. The group is made up of approximately 100 consultants, who are divided into central teams (Core S&PI), functionally aligned teams (Global Technology S&PI), and business-aligned teams (Asset Management S&PI, Consumer & Community Banking S&PI, and Commercial Banking S&PI).
Specific to Global Technology (GT) S&PI, all of our programs have direct CIO and GT Operating Committee sponsorship, and are executed at the CIO and/or CIO-1 level.  Engagement focus areas include:

  • Technology Strategy, Planning & Support
  • Expense Diagnostic
  • Operating Model & Capability Build-out
  • Benchmarking
  • Process Efficiency Review & Improvement
  • Sourcing & Solution Model
  • Organizational Design & Functional Restructuring
  • Complex Program Leadership & Change Management

S&PI follows a hypothesis-driven, fact-based approach to problem solving. The ability to solve critical business problems along with the diversity and backgrounds of individuals distinguish S&PI from other areas of the Firm. Typical project teams are comprised of 2 to 6 members, most of whom are former management consultants from top consulting firms (McKinsey, BCG, Strategy&, etc.). Projects are usually 2 to 4 months in duration, depending on complexity and scope.
Thought Leadership
  • Demonstrate ability to drive discussions, shape solutions, and elevate the brand awareness of GT S&PI through clear and consistent subject matter expertise within the projects in which you operate.  This includes but is not limited to:
    • Technology industry acumen
    • Technology strategy expertise
    • Technology implementation lifecycle expertise
    • Financial services industry acumen
  • Develop client-ready solutions across their problem sets
  • "Own" overall project success, measuring performance against assignment charter
  • Demonstrate ability to structure, plan and execute problem solving against management's key investment areas, resulting in actionable recommendations
  • Maintain familiarity with industry trends / best practices to stimulate creative problem-solving
  • Take leadership in adjusting approach or focus as new insights are generated
  • Has depth in 2-3 areas but breadth across multiple different engagement types
Client Leadership
  • Learn, practice, and master complex program leadership and change management skills aligned to our GT S&PI capabilities, including:
    • Demonstrate ability to communicate with and align senior stakeholders against a common goal
    • Plan, mobilize, and drive change for complex, highly-matrixed efforts through leadership experience, tools, and processes
    • Identify corrective actions for in-flight efforts
  • Able to influence client stakeholders to take action / facilitate buy-in of recommendations
  • Demonstrate ability to clearly communicate in all written and oral mediums
  • Act as trusted advisor to peers, with advice sought by clients beyond scope of engagement
    Team Leadership
  • Manage project portfolio and manage demand with project priorities; create teams with right mix of skills, experience, and backgrounds for each client
  • Actively invest in building and developing team members; support strategic career planning
  • Involved in broader S&PI team efforts, including recruiting, staffing / deployment decisions, performance management, etc.
  • Develop strong followership with junior team members who actively seek advice / mentorship


  • MBA or an advanced degree from a top-tier program
  • 6 years consulting experience with a top-tier management consulting firm or an internal consulting/corporate strategy team, including 3 years managerial experience motivating and leading teams
  • Executive-level communication experience
  • Strong client management, especially experience managing large-scale change programs, and executive-level communication skills
  • Familiarity with a broad range of analytical tools / problem-solving approaches
  • Experience in financial services industry required
  • Experience in the Technology domain is required   CSSPI
